3 Simple and Fun Family Ann Arbor Day Trips

Let’s be real… planning family outings can feel like a second job (or a third). You want something fun, low stress, maybe a little scenic, but definitely not something that requires lots of thought or lots of prep. That’s why I put together a list of my favorite real-life Ann Arbor day trips, places I actually take my own family when we unplug, run around, and maybe eat a donut or two.

Here are three of my seasonal go-tos, all within 30 minutes of Ann Arbor!

🌸 Spring Favorite: The Creature Conservancy

Sloths. Alligators. An emu that thinks he’s a dog. The Creature Conservancy is one of those places that’s just the right kind of weird… in the best possible way, of course. It’s part animal sanctuary, part mini-zoo, and big on up-close encounters that your kids (and let’s be hones, you too) will remember forever!

Why I love it: It’s small enough to do without a stroller meltdown, the outdoor areas are open daily with only a donation suggestion (indoors are open on the weekends and require a credit card), but the mix of indoor/outdoor areas make it great even when the weather is… well, Michigan-y.

Bonus: You’re right across the street from some of the best pizza around at Tippins! Stop in for a slice or order ahead! My personal favs are the Mixed Mushroom and the White Pizza.

🫐 Summer Favorite: Dexter Blueberry Farm

Sunshine, berry-stained fingers, and no-frills fields where kids can run wild? Yes please! The Dexter Blueberry Farm is summer simplicity at its finest, and bonus! You can eat your way through the adventure!

Why I love it: No bounce houses. No gift shops. Just blueberries and lots of giggles.

Parent tip: Bring wipes. Like… a lot of wipes. Also sunscreen and bugspray.

🍁 Fall Favorite: Alber Orchard & Cider Mill

Classic fall magic without all the chaos. Alber Orchard has got apple trees, warm donuts, fresh pressed cider, tractor rides, live music on most weekends, and a corn maze that all feels nostalgic instead of gimicky. The vibes are immaculate, enough so that it’s actually where my husband and I got married!

Why I love it: I mean what’s not to love about a classic orchard, but I especially love the wide open space and just the right amount of “old-timey.”

Parent tip: Freedom Winery offers great hard ciders, so grab some donuts for the littles and enjoy an adult beverage while the kiddos run around outside!
